KOESTER Sperrmortel

KOESTER Sperrmortel is a waterproof repair mortar. It offers excellent adhesion, even to old, mineral-based building substrates.

This mortar is also used for creating waterproof profiles (chamfers) at the junction of walls and foundations, before applying bituminous insulation materials (Bikuthan 2K i Deuxan 2K) or before sealing with  KOESTER NB 1 micro-mortar. It is also used for foundation base construction under machinery and for filling gaps, as well as larger joints.

What is Waterproofing?

Waterproofing, also known as moisture insulation, involves protecting a structure from the harmful and destructive effects of water. Waterproofing solutions are classified by the binder (waterproofing products):

• Bitumen and tar-based (an outdated method being phased out): These provide high water resistance and use easily available materials but have poor interlayer adhesion and can negatively affect health.
• Synthetic resin-based (modern solutions): These are only suitable for indoor, residential applications. They are not suitable for large water reservoirs, as prolonged exposure to water reduces their effectiveness.
• Mineral-polymer waterproofing products: Unlike the previous options, mineral-polymer waterproofing, also known as sealing or insulating slurries, does not have these drawbacks. Two-component mineral waterproofing is ideal for protecting walls, plinths, water basins, swimming pools, balconies, terraces, roofs, and rooms with high moisture levels, such as bathrooms and laundries.
• Multi-component reactive resin-based products (the latest binders): These products, made from polyurethane and epoxy resins, offer excellent penetration into the substrate, ensuring high adhesion and complete waterproofing.
