KOESTER Deuxan 2K

KOESTER Deuxan 2K is a two-component bituminous waterproofing compound without polystyrene, reinforced with fibers and polymer-modified. It provides effective and long-lasting sealing for external basement walls, foundations, and foundation slabs. Deuxan 2K is used for waterproofing building structures in accordance with DIN 18195, parts 4-6. This permanently flexible compound is resistant to groundwater and various aggressive substances commonly found in soil. It bridges and seals cracks in the substrate and also acts as a barrier against radon.

KOESTER Deuxan 2K is also suitable for sealing against pressurized water (consumption approx. 6 kg/m² with KOESTER Armierungsgewebe fiberglass mesh embedded in the first layer of bituminous waterproofing). It can be used for underfloor sealing and for bonding insulation and drainage boards.

What is Waterproofing?

Waterproofing, also known as moisture protection, is a process of securing a structure against the harmful and destructive effects of water. Waterproofing products are classified based on their binders:

• Bitumen and tar-based (an older method being phased out): These products offer high water resistance and are widely available. However, they have poor interlayer adhesion and pose health risks.
• Synthetic resin-based (modern products): Effective mainly for interior or small-scale residential use. They are not suitable for waterproofing large water tanks, as prolonged water exposure can reduce their effectiveness.
• Mineral-polymer waterproofing compounds: These products, also known as sealing or insulating slurries, avoid the drawbacks of other types. Two-component mineral waterproofing is ideal for waterproofing walls, plinths, water basins, pools, balconies, terraces, roofs, and high-humidity rooms like bathrooms and laundry rooms.
• Multi-component reactive resin-based (the latest binders): These may include polyurethane and epoxy resins. They penetrate well into the substrate, ensuring high adhesion and complete water resistance.
