Waterproofing with the AQUASTOPP System Step by Step
Pressing groundwater, moisture on foundations, and basement dampness pose a serious threat to buildings. Without proper protection, they can lead to permanent structural damage, mold growth, fungal infestations, and corrosion of building materials. To counter these challenges, the Bostik AQUASTOPP waterproofing system was developed, effectively protecting buildings from pressing water and moisture.
What is the Bostik AQUASTOPP System?
The Bostik AQUASTOPP system is a comprehensive waterproofing solution consisting of three elements that work together to create a durable barrier against moisture. These products are effective even in challenging conditions, such as on wet surfaces, where other methods may fail.
Components of the AQUASTOPP System:
- BLOCK C901 TERRA SPECIAL – A fast-setting cementitious slurry resistant to frost and road salt, designed for negative-side waterproofing.
- BLOCK C902 TERRA XPRESS – A cement-based mortar that bonds upon contact with water, creating a watertight seal within seconds.
- BLOCK C903 TERRA LIQUID – A silicate-based solution that seals capillary pores, forming a uniform waterproofing system resistant to frost and salt.
How to Prepare Waterproofing?
To ensure the effectiveness of the AQUASTOPP system, the substrate must be properly prepared, and the products should be applied following best construction practices.
Surface Preparation:
- Remove old plaster from damp areas.
- The surface should be clean, strong, load-bearing, and free from gypsum residues.
Application Steps:
- Apply BLOCK C901 TERRA SPECIAL to the surface in sections (up to 2 m²) using a brush.
- Manually rub BLOCK C902 TERRA XPRESS into the fresh layer using the "wet-on-wet" method.
- Cover the entire surface with BLOCK C903 TERRA LIQUID using a brush.
- Apply additional layers of BLOCK C901 TERRA SPECIAL, ensuring proper intervals between applications.
Working Conditions:
- Ambient temperature during application should be between +5°C and +30°C.
- Wear protective gloves to avoid contact with the products.
