A Simple and Fast Way to Change Your Space
If you are looking for a quick and easy way to make a spectacular transformation in your home or apartment, decorative effects are the perfect solution. They are affordable, simple to apply, and can be completed in just one day—no need for extensive renovations or hiring a professional team.
Unlike real bricks, decorative effects do not add weight to the wall, making them ideal for both interiors and facades.

Brick Effect in Interior Design
The brick effect is commonly used in modern interiors with a rustic touch, as well as in the timeless New York loft style.
- Rough, uneven textures contrast beautifully with smooth surfaces, creating depth.
- Multi-toned glazing applied over the brick effect enhances visual appeal.
- Bold color accents make spaces more dynamic and unique.
- Brick effects can be used both indoors and on exterior facades, completely transforming the building’s look.
How to Create a Brick Effect Indoors?
Step 1: Prime the Wall
Apply paint in the color you want for the grout lines.
Step 2: Apply the Stencil
- Remove the protective layer from the stencil and stick it onto the wall.
- If you plan to leave it for a longer period or cover a large surface, secure it with additional tape.
Step 3: Press Down the Stencil
Before applying plaster, remove the protective layer and ensure the stencil adheres well.
Step 4: Apply Plaster
- The thickness of the plaster determines the final effect.
- You can create either a subtle relief or a deep, 3D textured finish.
For a rough, aged brick effect, use NOVALIT MODELED plaster. When heated, it naturally cracks for an authentic aged look.
Step 5: Shape the Texture
- Use a trowel to create patterns.
- Experiment with effects such as pitting, wrinkles, or cracks for a unique look.
- These details work beautifully on walls and fireplaces.
Step 6: Remove the Stencil and Refine the Edges
- Two finishing methods:
- Let the bricks dry completely and smooth the edges with a grinding stone.
- Remove excess material while still wet using a trowel.
Step 7: Painting
Use a brush or short-nap roller to carefully paint the bricks without staining the grout.
Step 8: Glazing for a 3D Effect
- Apply LAZUR ZW to enhance depth and texture.
- For a softer effect, dilute it with 30% water and apply in layers.
- Use a brush and sponge to smooth out excess glaze.
- Add orange, red, or brown tones to enhance the burnt-clay brick look.
How to Create a Brick Effect on Exterior Walls?
The brick effect can also be used on facades, following this layering method:
- Apply a base coat of textured exterior plaster (e.g., "lamb" type).
- Apply modelable plaster in the grout color.
- Ensure a smooth finish before attaching the stencil.
- Press down the stencil and apply the top layer of plaster in the desired brick color.
Additional Tips:
- If you cannot finish the entire section at once, create a separation at the grout line and continue the next day—joints will be invisible.
- For the final step, use Novalit Modeled, shape the pattern, and refine it with a slightly dampened trowel.
- Remove the stencil, refine the edges, and apply LAZUR ZW to enhance the aged brick look.
- Using multiple colors makes dirt and stains less visible.
Alternative Application: Spray Plaster and Mosaic Textures
Spray-applied plasters and mosaics have grown in popularity in recent years.
- Quick and easy application
- No need for additional reinforcement on insulation systems
- No special anchors required
How to Apply a Brick Effect with Spray Plaster?
- Prime the surface with an appropriate base coat.
- For exteriors, use outdoor paint.
- For interiors, use indoor primer.
- Let the paint dry and apply the stencil.
- Spray the plaster onto the surface.
- Use Mozaiker Akord mosaic plaster to create multi-tone bricks.
KABE offers 10 different aggregate colors that can be mixed for a custom effect.
Color Blending for a Realistic Look
- Start with a base mono-color coat.
- Add contrasting colors like black and white for a natural look.
- Multi-toned finishes mimic authentic fired brick.
- Remove the stencil—and your brick effect is complete!
