Its primary purpose is to protect foundation walls from moisture coming from the soil. Vertical insulation complements horizontal waterproofing, extending from the foundation footings to the splash zone where rainwater impacts the building. It must be seamlessly connected to horizontal insulation and transition into the plinth insulation zone.
